Sometimes a human needs space. Like, A LOT. Without it? It gets crowded. So crowded you may not be able to think – or process. Or see clearly. Because chaos is cloudy. And this world…. oomph, she’s noisy. So how do you make space in a crowded mind/world/life? When I can, I’ll sneak out for some runs on a local ski slope. The lift chair is a favorite spacious spot of mine. I pull up my face mask, tuck myself into my collar and stare at the pine trees and snowflakes. And zone the F out. Unless I’m seated next to a chatty fella (I have stories), I glide up in peace and focus on space. Then, I listen for any lift chair epiphanies. Oh, boy do they come. They pile up faster than the teenagers below me trying to land that ski jump. Because when we allow ourselves to make space, to listen, our mind finally speaks the truth. I get it though – not everyone has the means or time to be on a lift chair. Not everyone has even a few minutes. In that case? Find yours. Find your way to sneak it in. While I love a good lift chair epiphany, many of my productive thoughts happen: If you make the space to listen, I’d love to hear: What did you learn about yourself, about life, when you finally allowed yourself that moment? Did you learn anything helpful? Hard? Hilarious? Let me know. Or write it down. Or just smile, applaud yourself, and tuck it away as new knowledge. Because that was all you. ps – Some news I'd love to share with you... now that my certification is complete, I officially added Health and Wellness Coaching to veggiesandvodka.com! What if you did the brave thing… And chose growth over comfort. Would it feel: Wise? Empowering? Inspiring? Or… Exhausting? Vulnerable? Facepalming? (It’s an adjective now.) What if it was all of the above? That’s how it’s felt for me the past year: Soaring highs and recharge-on-the-couch lows. One day I’m the bird cruising a floaty breeze. The next? I’m the bird huddled in the nest going “nah, that’s too windy.” Maybe that’s just the flight path of growth. Updrafts, sunshine — and wind...
It felt like I triggered a private earthquake. My ‘97 Jeep Cherokee had started VIOLENTLY shaking. The steering wheel jackhammered against my palms. Not ideal while descending a steep hill on a two-lane highway—at 65 mph.(For my Colorado folks—that final hill of Hwy 36 into Boulder.) I side-eyed the emergency brake. It was held together with duct tape. Dare I? After what felt like minutes of terrifying chaos (probably 60 seconds)I managed to pull to the shoulder. Holy deep breaths....
Keep going. You read that right. I know you’re on the brink of something. Whether it’s just for you, your loved ones, or the world… I know it’s awesome. Because you are. If you’re thinking: “Lady, you crazy – you don’t even know me!” I know this – humans as a species are awesome. We're capable of so much more goodness than we think. And this planet could really use any smidge of positivity you feel like sharing. (Understatement.) So if you think for a second that it’s not worth...
