Are you ready? I'm ready.

Oops. This newsletter is coming at you late because I've been traveling to visit family, but also because I kept rewriting this email. There are just so many things I want to tell you! So here we go…

Her skeptical eye was fierce.

I was sitting across from my college advisor trying to wiggle my way into a double major.

You know, that “ideal” combo of a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design...

and a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Nutrition.

But my college advisor was, well, advising me.

(Sans eye roll, to her credit.)

She said it would take way more than 4 years to cover all those courses since there was no overlap.

Which meant extra years of college – and tuition.

(What, you mean Figure Drawing and InDesign 101 won’t count towards Nutrition?)

So I pursued my BFA.

And erased the other dream from my mind.

Yet, here I am 20 years later repeating the same story:

“Yeah, I’ve had a pretty tricky health journey and learned a lot along the way. One day I’d love to study and become a certified Health Coach so I can help others deal with all the confusing, intimidating, overwhelming, (and underwhelming) stuff I went (and continue) to go, through.”

Apparently I used a shitty eraser.

But I’m not ready to let my Graphic Design business go either.

So I’m going to attempt that double major –

Just as a double career venture instead.

Preposterous!

But the finger has clicked.

As of last week, I’m officially registered for a Functional Medicine Health Coaching program.

By this time next year, I’ll be a certified Health & Wellness Coach.

Which means I’ll gain the fancy acronym of NBC-HWC.*

And guess what that means for you, Reader?

As I dive into this course over the next year, I’m going to share lots of juicy tips and tricks I learn along the way with you.

In newsletter emails, in blogs, and eventually in coaching sessions.

And you’ll get first dibs on the 50 coaching sessions I’ll have to do for my certification.

I'm so thrilled and proud to finally dive into all of this with you.

It would have been easy to stay in the “now’s not the right time” / “maybe one day” / “am I ready for this” pattern.

But if not now, when?

Sometimes you have to make the time to do the thing.

Combine or pursue the passions.

Commit to the leap.

I mean, who better to commit to yourself than you?

Let’s do this.

Maura

ps – Pivots and new pursuits can be so scary, can’t they Reader? Anything you’ve considered or wanted to pursue for a long time that's still in the “maybe one day” pile that's ready for the "if not now, when" pile? I’d love to know I’m not the only one making an old advisor’s eye twitch.

*AKA: No Butter Cat - Happy Women’s Club, which is how I’m remembering the long acronym.

She might as well have thrown the mic at me. The obvious aha was so big in my head: Rest and leisure are not the same. “Wait, what?” Last weekend at a coaching symposium the speaker was dropping serious knowledge on our nervous systems. And what rest actually looks like. I’m a big fan of movement and nature. I want to be outside DOING the thing and getting after it. (Mountain biking, hiking, snowboarding, paddleboarding…) Her talk helped me realize that while those are excellent for my health...

Hi friends, I'm back! And I'm waving hello to those of you who joined during my hiatus and are getting your first Sketching Adventures email! Hummingbird. That was my brain’s default speed this summer. Fluttering faster than I could think.Zipping around on a sugar high. Blurring my reality. Between the constant evolution of AI, an ever-changing world, and a life that’s packed full of goodness, it sometimes feels hard to keep up. Not to mention all the things we can blindly click on these...

There’s no one way. The amount of times I’ve said that — that we’ve all said that — infinite, right? For me, it often comes up around health, wellness, business or mindset. There’s no one way… to eat healthy (100% paleo is not for me) to get fit (burpees on the daily are a big no thank you) to do business (social media is my frenemy, referrals are my bestie) to be creative (hello, silly sketches) to live (relationships + nature + adventure + time = me) to be ready (moving on from perfection,...
